BMT support Association of Motorsport Recovery Operators (AMRO) with safety and volunteer training grants

A major beneficiary of the British Motorsport Trust’s (BMT) Safety Development Fund and Training Day Programme in recent years has been the Association of Motorsport Recovery Operators (AMRO).

Formed in 1995, AMRO, a Motorsport UK Recognised Club, is made up of around 85% of all licenced recovery officials and units up and down the country.

Their experienced officials form part of the ‘Safety Triangle’ at events, encompassing emergency services – assisting the rescue unit and medics at incidents – as well as recovery responsibilities to maintain the smooth running of track and stage activities.

Thirteen of the club’s members have received funding from the BMT since May 2022, with the grants assisting in the purchase of new recovery units, mandatory equipment specified by Motorsport UK, and even specialist trailers designed for the recovery of electric vehicles as these internal combustion alternatives continue to increase in popularity at events.

“Unlike rescue units, which are generally funded by a club or circuit, recovery units are owned and operated by individual licensed officials and we are, therefore, extremely grateful for the continued financial support offered to our members by the BMT,” commented Ian Culbert, Chairman of the Association of Motorsport Recovery Operators.

Alongside the safety-related grants received, AMRO has also benefitted from the BMT’s Volunteers and Marshals Training Day programme.

“It is a mandatory Motorsport UK requirement for all licensed recovery officials and trainees to attend specialist training annually and AMRO organise up to eight training events throughout the whole of the UK each year on behalf of Motorsport UK,” Culbert added. “This is only made possible by funding by BMT via the Training Day Programme.”

AMRO Members are active week in, week out throughout UK motorsport. To find out further information, visit: www.amro.org.uk
