The Safety Development Fund programme is open to application by Motorsport UK Registered Clubs or other Motorsport UK Registered or Licensed Organisations (at the discretion of the Trustees). Priority will be given to applications which are considered most likely to further improve safety aspects of motor sport. This programme includes, but is not limited to, four major strands:

• Closed Road Event Safety Grants
• Venue Safety and Sustainability Improvements
• Rescue Units and Equipment
• Recovery Units and Equipment

Points to consider before applying for a grant

Before completing a grant application form, please refer to the relevant FAQ’s which list typical examples of eligible projects.

Please also bear in mind the following important points which apply to all applications:

• Applications will only be considered from Motorsport UK Registered Motor Clubs or other Motorsport UK Registered or Licensed organisations (at the discretion of the Awards Panel).
• Priority will be given to applications which are considered most likely to further improve safety aspects of motor sport.
• Any specialist equipment purchased (e.g. for Motorsport UK Licensed Rescue Units) must be currently specified in Motorsport UK Regulations as required for the particular type of organisation and operation.
• Any applications relating to venue improvements will be considered on the basis of their level of safety enhancement and/or extended usage of a particular venue and/or purpose, and are always subject to the views and support of the Motorsport Safety Executive.
• The Trustees of the British Motorsport Trust agree internal guidelines for funding which the Awards Panel use to set the level of recommended awards in each case, and these are reviewed annually to maintain a best match with the current needs of the sport and enable best use to be made of the available budget in order that grant aid benefit can be spread as fairly and widely as possible.

When you are ready to start completing the application form, please do this as fully as possible, as the more detail and supporting information you can provide, the easier it is for the Trust’s Awards Panel to properly consider your application and reach a positive decision. Please remember to include copies of paid invoices if relevant purchases have already been made, or a copy of a quotation if a purchase is still pending at the time of application.

Please ignore any questions on the form which you may consider irrelevant to your particular  application.

Please return completed application forms (by post or e-mail) to the Trust General Secretary as below. Applications are normally considered by the Awards Panel in batches approximately every 4 weeks, and feedback to applicants is normally provided within two weeks thereafter at most, or once any queries raised by the Awards Panel have received a satisfactorily response.

Venue Safety and Sustainability Improvement Grants apply to fixed and temporary venues, including noise management projects, where they help to ensure continued or extended use of a venue. Track or course works are normally eligible for grant aid (especially where recommended by Motorsport UK Venue Inspectorate), whereas buildings and infrastructure generally are not.

Rescue Units and Equipment Grants are available on a sliding scale of percentages for the replacement or renewal of Motorsport UK Licensed Rescue Units and their currently Motorsport UK specified equipment. The level of grant available recognises the potential life-saving role which these volunteer manned units perform. This grant is not available for normal service and maintenance requirements.

Recovery Units and Equipment Grants are available on a sliding scale of percentages for the replacement or renewal of Motorsport UK Licensed Recovery Units and their currently Motorsport UK specified equipment. The level of grant available recognises that for some units a level of commercial activity may be undertaken which is outside the remit of the Trust’s grant aid. This grant is not available for normal service and maintenance requirements.

The British Motorsport Trust provides block grant aid funding each year for Safety Training related projects. These include but are not limited to: Marshals Training Days; Rescue & Recovery Training Days; and Medical Training Days.

Please note that the management and administration of these lie with the Motorsport UK Training Department, and a different application process for that grant aid consideration exists. You cannot use the Safety Development Fund (or the Motorsport UK Motor Sport Development Fund) application forms for this purpose.
